Terrestrial erect orchid that can reach up to 3 m tall. Leaves are simple, alternately and spirally arranged, papery, adaxially folded upwards and dark green. Leaf blade is narrowly elliptic- lanceolate, acuminate at apex, cuneate at base with entire margin and parallel venation. Stems are erect, unbranched, sheathing and subcylindrical. The roots are boiled with other herbs and the decoction can be taken orally as a remedy for gastric problems. The wood is locally used to make traps or ‘Bubu’.
It prefers moist but well-drained soils under full sunlight to partial shade. It thrives in open moist grassy patches near to streams, disturbed forests, along roadsides and on hillside thickets.
