Perennial tufted grass. Leaves are mid green, narrowly linear, glabrous and discolorous beneath. Leaf blade is lanceolate, auriculate at base with a brief petiole- like connecting to sheath. Leaf sheaths are covered with bristly hairs and rough. Stems are woody arising in a clump from many primary buds at one stem node. Rhizomes are short and thick. Inflorescence a compound spike, clustered at nodes in tufts. Spikelets comprising of 4 fertile

The local healers use this herb to treat abscesses by rinsing, pounding the herbs into a pestle-like mass and applied as poultice to affected skin. It can be added with seeds of fennel flowers or black cumin ( Nigella sativa ) and shallots (Allium cepa var. aggregatum ) for more healing effect. The plant possesses neuroprotective, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti- inflammatory, antiulcerogenic, and anticancer

It prefers fertile soil under full sunlight to partial shade.
