Perennial shrub or twining liana. Leaves are simple, oppositely arranged, occasionally in whorls of 3 or 4, hairy, adaxially light green and abaxially pale green. Leaf blade is elliptic, acuminate at apex, cuneate at base with entire margin and pinnate venation. Stems are more or less woody and covered with hairs.
The leaves and stems are soaked into warm water as herbal bath for after childbirth treatment.
It is found growing in the edges of lowland tropical forests. It prefers fertile, loamy soil under full sunlight to shade.

Native of tropical Asia and Australia and it is naturalized worldwide.
