ebode by Dynamik Technologies participated in our exhibition during the launch of the Symposium on Plants in Islamic Civilisation at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday. They showcased digital audio guides created by ebode accessed through the izi.TRAVEL app to our Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, highlighting their collaboration with UBD Botanical Research Centre and their new project featuring the Al-Hadeeqah Al-Mubaarakah zone.

Participants also had the opportunity to win prizes by engaging in ebode’s interactive quizzes.

We are thrilled to launch a new 1-minute video that highlights the beauty of the Al-Hadeeqah Al-Mubaarakah zone at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC), unveiled at the Symposium on Plants in Islamic Civilisation held at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. This zone celebrates plants mentioned in the Al-Quran and Hadith, connecting visitors with nature and underscoring values of biodiversity and sustainability. The video offers a glimpse into the unique living collections within the zone, alongside the verses in which they are mentioned.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the passionate contributors who made this video possible, including Dr Norhayati Ahmad, Associate Professor Dr Rahayu Sukmaria Haji Sukri, Dr Salwana Md. Jaafar, Nurul Hazlina Hj Zaini, Mohammad Amiruddin Haji Ruslan and Soon Boon Yu. This launch reflects UBD BRC’s commitment to conserving these valuable plants for future generations.

We are excited to share the latest booklet that was unveiled during the opening ceremony of the Symposium on Plants in Islamic Civilisation today held at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The booklet compilation was led by co-editors Dr Norhayati Ahmad, Associate Professor Dr. Rahayu Sukmaria binti Haji Sukri and Nurul Hazlina Hj Zaini of UBD BRC and IBER.
The booklet depicts the living collections found in the Al-Hadeeqah Al-Mubaarakah zone in the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC) which showcases plants that are mentioned in the Al-Quran and Hadith. The booklet provides a short description of each plant and their traditional uses as well as references to the verses where these plants are mentioned. The Al-Hadeeqah Al-Mubaarakah zone connects visitors with nature and gives a deep appreciation towards biodiversity and sustainability as mentioned in the Al-Quran and Hadith.
This booklet is testament of the commitment of the UBD BRC towards conservation efforts of these valuable plants. We thank the passionate team of assistants who have come together to materialise this booklet.

On October 24, 2024, we had an incredible day at the UBD Botanical Research Centre with the amazing students and teachers from IBTE Agro-Technology Campus! Together, we planted 37 native saplings including the endangered Heritiera globosa (Dungun), to help us enrich the living collections in the UBD BRC garden —a big thank you to Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) for their generous donation of these saplings!

Every tree we planted is not just a sapling; it’s a step toward enhancing biodiversity and promoting environmental sustainability. Let’s celebrate our commitment to a healthier planet! 🌳🌏
