Perennial tree of up to 45 m tall. Leaves are simple, in opposite arrangement, thinly leathery, adaxially glossy and glabrous, abaxially glabrous to densely hairy. Leaf blade is elliptic to lanceolate, acute at apex, rounded or truncate at base with entire margin and pinnate venation. Stems are woody, gray and fissured when mature. It thrives on alluvial sites, near riverbanks, in secondary forests and in the transitional zone between swampy and flooded area. It prefers moist but well- drained loamy soil under partial shade but can tolerate full sunlight.
