Terrestrial herb that can grow up to 40 cm high. Leaves are simple, large, sheathing, adaxially glossy and abaxially less glossy. There are 6-8 leaves per shoot. Leaf blade is oblong-lanceolate, ascending to somewhat spreading, shortly acuminate at apex, cordate at base with irregular margin. Stems are growing above the ground, rhizomatous and covered with persistent leaf bases. Inflorescence a cyme developing at terminal branch. It is believed that the plant is very effective in treating severe cut and bruises on skin area. The glaucous on stem is peeled off and attached to the affected skin as poultice.

It prefers moist, fertile loamy soil under sunlight to partial shade. It thrives in secondary forests and along roadsides.
