It is locally used to improve appetite and for digestive tonic, laxative, fever, and wounds. It possesses anticancer, antiallergic, antidiabetic, antimicrobial and antihypertensive activities.

It grows well on moist but well- drained soil under partial shade. It thrives along streams, in the forests and on slopes.
