Perennial woody liana that can reach up to 10 m tall. Leaves are simple, oppositely arranged, glabrous and papery. Leaf blade is ovate, acute to acuminate at apex, cordate to rounded at base with entire margin and pinnate venation. Stems are twining with 2 glands fused to the petioles. Inflorescence a raceme arising from the terminal branch or leaf axils. Flowers are yellow, many- flowered and star-shaped. Fruit a star-shaped, brownish and dehiscent

The local healers believed the decoction of rhizomes can produce more red blood cells and reduce the amount of white blood cells. The rhizome decoction is also used to treat vomiting blood. The rhizome is either eaten raw or cooked to treat thrush especially for children.

It is usually found in secondary forests, in open scrubs and grasslands under full sunlight.

Seeds and semi hard wood cutting.
