Terrestrial unbranched herb that can grow up to 60 cm tall. Leaves are simple, oppositely arranged, strongly variable in shapes and sizes, glossy, hairy, adaxially dark green and glabrous and abaxially pale light green. One leaf of each pair is reduced to a small stipule- like structure while few form a fan at upper stem. Leaf blade is lanceolate to broadly elliptic, acute to acuminate at apex, cuneate at base with entire to irregularly toothed margin and pinnate venation. Stems are rooting, short and growing horizontally on the ground. Prop roots are rigid and branching only when they reach the soil. Inflorescence a cyme arising at leaf axils.
