Annual or terrestrial herb that can reach 40 cm high. Leaves are simple, alternately arranged, glabrous and possessing a mustard-like smell when bruised. Leaf blade is broadly ovate or broadly elliptic, acute or obtuse at apex, cordate or rounded at base with toothed margin and pinnate venation. Stems are erect, succulent, branched and glabrous. Inflorescence a terminal spike or arising from leaf axil. Flowers are tiny, densely flowered and creamy- white. Fruit a globose, brown nutlet
