Lantana camara L.
Sage / Bunga tahi ayam (Bru.)
Perennial shrub that can reach up to 5 m tall. Leaves are simple, oppositely arranged, wrinkled, covered with stiff hairs and producing a strong smell when bruised. Leaf blade is ovate to oblong, acute at apex, rounded to subcordate at base with toothed margin and pinnate venation. Stems are bristly hairy when young, quadrangular, sometimes covered with recurved prickles. Inflorescence a terminal head. Flowers are small, flat-topped, multi-coloured from cream, yellow, orange to red. Fruit a globose purple
The fresh leaves are warmed over a flame and applied to abdominal area to relieve bloating and for after childbirth treatment.
It prefers fertile moist but well-drained loamy soil under full sunlight. It thrives near streams, in disturbed forests, on gentle slopes and near village houses.
